From Virginia to Tokyo

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

I arrived in Tokyo the day before yesterday and have been pretty busy since I got here. I finally figured out how to connect to wifi in my dorm, so here are a few pictures I took before leaving Charlottesville and right after arriving in Tokyo.

This first picture is the view from the balcony of my dorm room. My hands must have been pretty shaky when I was taking it and I seriously screwed it up, but it still looks cool. Like laser beams are shooting out of the buildings or something.

Now we're going to jump back in time to some shots of a residential area in downtown Charlottesville.

Maria and I took some goodbye pics. Luckily she was on spring break right before I left. (Hi Maria, I know you're reading this.)
In order to get to Tokyo, I took a flight from Dulles to Toronto and then from Toronto to Tokyo. I had a three-hour layover and was pretty impressed with the Toronto airport. The cafe had 4 iPads per table. Possibly excessive, but still cool.

The cafe also had actual, non-terrible food. I ate a quinoa salad and an orange during my layover. I also bought two bars, one with goji berries and one with carob, to take on the plane so I wouldn't have to eat as much questionable plane food.

Finally, here is my best attempt to take a picture of the view from the balcony of my dorm. There is a tree growing right in front, but beyond that the view is pretty nice.

I have to take a Japanese placement test tomorrow, so I plan to spend the rest of the day studying and picking up some random necessities (shower shoes are a must).

Stay tuned for my upcoming posts for a tour of my dorm and the surrounding area, Takedanobaba.
