Kabuki-cho and Golden Gai at Night
Wednesday, April 16, 2014
I went out to Shinjuku tonight after class to eat dinner with some friends and to get into some trouble in Kabuki-cho, the red-light district. Keep reading if you like pop culture and boob-robots.
We walked around for a little while trying to figure out what we wanted to eat, and finally settled on some yakisoba. Can't go wrong with yakisoba.
The guy cooked it right in front of us. That white stuff is mayonnaise.
Then we went into Kabuki-cho. Here is the entrance.
It was sort of creepy because guys kept coming up to us asking if we wanted to go clubbing with them or "have fun" with them, etc. Basically guys will try to lead you to certain clubs or restaurants, and you are pretty much guaranteed to be scammed in some way. My friends have even heard horror stories of people getting robbed this way. But it's fine as long as you say "no" persistently and walk away.
Here's a view down the main street of Kabuki-cho.
And this blog post would not be complete without a picture of the robot restaurant. Only in Japan.
Wait, there's more! A giant, busty robot carrying an actual human in it's belly like a kangaroo.
I'm pretty sure this wasn't even a part of the robot restaurant. It was a separate boob-robot place.
We also walked into a pachinko place for a few minutes to check it out. There were a surprising amount of middle-aged ladies there.
We then decided to seek out some purikura booths because those never fail to entertain. I may do a blog post on my purikura in the future if I have time, because I look so incredibly creepy in pirikura pictures. Also, I got in trouble for taking this picture. Apparently you are not allowed to take pictures of the purikura booths, even though the sole purpose of the booths is to produce pictures.
We ended the night in Golden Gai, an old and narrow area of Shinjuku. Golden Gai basically contains about six tiny streets full of tiny bars. Literally, each bar can only hold about 5-7 people, but they all seemed to have a lot of character.

ReplyDeleteThis blog made me nervous. I don't think you should go back to that area.
