Yesterday I received a package from iherb.com, an online natural foods store.
This may only be exciting to me and no one else, but I decided to post about it anyway because iherb.com (from my experience so far) is a great way to buy natural foods that are impossible to find in Japanese grocery stores.
I ordered chia seeds, a bag of raw almonds, cocoa powder, raw organic almond butter, organic extra virgin coconut oil, and unsweetened coconut flakes. iHerb.com threw in a measuring tape, which I was actually pretty excited about because I can use it to measure things around my room, the sizes of pictures for official forms, etc. It's the little things.
Anyway, it's worth noting that I did run into some problems when trying to place my order. Apparently certain foods, such as quinoa, can't be shipped to Japan, so I'm going to have to try to find a workaround for those foods later on. The Spectrum brand of chia seeds was the only one at iHerb that would ship to Japan, and I had to replace the almond meal in my cart with raw almonds, because apparently almond meal can't ship to Japan either. That's fine though, because you can make almond meal yourself by throwing raw almonds into a blender.
Since I'm on the topic of natural/healthy/organic foods, here's a fun fact: Though I can't find many of the foods I'm used to eating in Japan (I'm pretty sure all the milk here is whole milk, yuck), the grocery stores I've been to seem to consistently carry fairly large bags of goji berries. So I can't buy whole wheat bread or skim milk, but at least I have goji berries.
Sorry for the wordy post today. I'm going hiking on Sunday so hopefully I will have a lot of pictures to post in a few days.
Yay! All your favorites delivered to you door. Hope your blender can handle the almonds. : )
