UN University Farmer's Market

Monday, June 16, 2014

Yesterday I went to a farmer's market in Aoyama, right in front of United Nations University. It may have been just a typical farmer's market, but for me it was like paradise because there aren't many places like this is Japan.

Here is a little overview of one of the aisles.

Flower stall! If I had more disposable income I would have bought fresh flowers.

One of the stalls had a machine that was making sesame oil. The oil was being squeezed out the side into a cup and the dry, fibery, leftover part was filtered into a different cup.

There was a baby goat!! I couldn't get over this little guy.

Homemade soaps! These smelled so good. I might buy one if I end up going back to the farmer's market at some point.

There were quite a few food trucks around the market as well. They had an Indian curry truck, a Thai curry truck, a couple of vegan food trucks, and even a smoothie truck! As I said, this was like the best place ever to me.

I got this hummus, tomato, and avocado sandwich for lunch. Let it be known that this is the only sandwich I have had since I came to Japan in March. I mean, I was given some egg salad sandwiches on Wonderbread-esque bread during some orientations when I first came here, but I don't count those.

I bought some natural acai and berry granola too, at a little stand that had a ton of different varieties. I got caught up in a conversation with the girl who was working at the stand because she was a 4th year in college and had done a study abroad in Wisconsin. Overall, this was a really cool market and I definitely want to come back again at some point!
